Stephen Walking – Shark City [Monstercat]

Stephen Walking - Shark City

Stephen Walking is no stranger to eclectic, out-of-the-box mixes. So when I first heard ‘Shark City,’ I’ll admit I had to listen to it a few times for it to grow on me. But like a beard, it came in full and bushy. Wait… I meant to say, awesome and sounds good. Yeah. That’s better.

It starts out with some funky bongo and piano action, kinda luring you in. You wanna dance but you’re not sure where it’s gonna go yet. Then the bassline comes in and you’re like, “whoa…”; but that’s not all! The piano continues to tease you, the groove drawing you in closer and closer… What I’m getting at is, it’s like a predator, a shark. Because through all of this build up, through all of this light teasing, you’re not ready for the main course. Some basic major chords in the rise lets you know something big is going to happen and then all hell breaks loose in the heavy drop, an “electro vocoded attack of sound.”

This right here is why I will always love Stephen Walking. As far as I know, there’s no formula he follows. He just makes some bad-ass tunes. Check out the tune below and support Stephen Walking by snagging this track on Beatport.
