John Dahlback‘s latest recruit for his label Mutants Records has released ‘Heart Attack’ today. A hugely stirring piece of electro house featuring the vocals of talented Elisabeth Stone, this is a quality piece of work from the Belgian producer Sem Thomasson. We got in touch with Thomasson to discuss the release and forthcoming projects.
Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, ‘Heart Attack’ is sounding huge! What process did you go through when writing the tune with Elisabeth Stone?
The actual track idea was born 4 years ago already but it took me ages to finalize the track and find the right vibe to the music. Producing music really is a creative process. When I played out the eventual final version I knew it was spot on. The reaction of the crowd was amazing. Elisabeth Stone is a very talented person to work with and I’m happy to have her featured on the release. 
How did the track get picked up by the Mutants Camp and what is it like working with John Dählback?
When the track was finished I sent it around to a few contacts, and Mutants immediately picked up the track. I’m honoured that they like this tune as I put a lot of effort in the production process. I’ve known John Dählback for a few a few years already, I remixed one of his tracks a couple of years back. I’m proud that he’s also given me the opportunity to takeover his Mutants radio show.
Would you ever consider running your own music label? What would be the next stages in your music career after producing?
Actually at the age of 18, I entered the music industry running my own label. I’ve been working for several record companies in the meanwhile. There are a few things in the pipeline – I will always stay active in the music industry, even when my own career ends. There’s so many fun things to do in this engaging industry.
The ‘Big House’ scene has really taken off in the last year or so. Why do you think this is?
The industry in general has known a fast growing form of globalisation. Our niche industry got injected with new investors and big capital and house (or do I say EDM) music quickly got fast-tracked, which I personally think is very sad. Bigger markets like the USA started to show interest in the music genre and things moved very fast from there.
What are you hoping to achieve by this time next year?
I just want to keep making good music and play a lot of gigs all over the world. If you work hard, make good music and have a little luck, the sky really can be the limit. For now, I’m looking forward to my new releases and my gigs at Tomorrowland etc.
Who would be your dream collaboration? (Past and present)
I’ve always been a huge fan of Coldplay. I think Chris Martin’s band is the best of the last few decades. Their music always combines emotion with catchy hooks. Also Calvin Harris is a dream collaboration. He perfectly knows how to make accessible dance tracks that both work in the clubs as well as on the radio. Finally, I think Swedish singer Robyn would sound great on my productions.
