We have learned that the volunteer who passed away is not the same person who received the injuries to his neck. Update: We are happy to announce that Electric Forest has just declared that “there was a medical incident, but the man involved is okay & in safe hands”. It is unfortunate that the event occurred and that it affected attendees in such negative ways but we are thankful that the man involved is now okay.

Word is coming in that potentially one of the more gruesome tragedies I have ever had to write about happened at this year’s Electric Forest. We are currently awaiting confirmation from official sources but it has been reported to us from multiple different personal accounts that a man had his throat slit “ear to ear” with large amounts of blood gushing out of his wound. The event has also been documented on social media, on personal pages and Electric Forest groups. Attached below are some of the messages and descriptions.
We will be sure to update this article as more information is released on the matter.

Ok, seriously the current 15-25 age group is so lost on what EDM Festivals and Parties are intended for, were intended for, and where they started. They are drug festivals. Plain and simple. From Michael Alig, to Frankie Knuckles, from chicago house to UK dub (which originated in 1998, yea, dubstep is 16 years old!) the costumes, music, and visual effects were all invented to further enchance drug use. Ask anyone over 30 what EDM events were like in the 80’s and 90’s. That being said, being responsible, peaceful, and friendly (which true ravers are) means looking out for those who are doing drugs too often, or who are having a bad trip, or who need a place to stay because they are down on their luck. There is nothing wrong with drug experimenting, just be there for someone who takes it a little too far.
The girl writing about “Common Sense” on acid is a moron. Those two things don’t mesh. Festivals like the forest cater to drug culture much stronger than others. Not that drugs aren’t expected at music festivals but people go with the sole intent to get fucked up often on as many substances as they can get ahold of. Not the “love and community” people preach about. Its fun. You can make friends, but relationships made on drugs aren’t completely real in the first place. Then you have the lunatics running around that have no clue where they even are. Look into other festivals. Oh, also hat pin kids are billboards for stupidity. If you feel the need to advertise what’s in your bloodstream before you even speak to someone you’re a loser.
“Reporters” should get their “facts” straight before posting their articles on the internet. This was clearly a horribly unfortunate event that could take place anywhere a hammock is involved. Also, anyone talking about “drug culture” and “everyone” taking “as many drugs as possible” needs to do their research. There are plenty of people there for the feeling of community and music. Are there a lot of people on drugs? Yes. But there are people on drugs at any music event – yes, even country concerts. Edm gets a bad rap because of assholes who stereotype. And it is possible to do most drugs “responsibly”. Haven’t you ever heard of a functioning addict? The key to hallucinogens is to not take too much. And for all of you out there that think MDMA is killing people, maybe do some research. It’s nearly impossible to OD on it. This is why there needs to be more education on drugs available to kids so if and when they choose to do drugs, they have the knowledge to make better choices (ie: have a testing kit, don’t take drugs from strangers, don’t mix your drugs, stay hydrated, don’t over exert yourself, etc) To me, it seems like there are a lot of uneducated people out there giving wrong information and shining a negative light on a movement that is supposed to support friendliness and community. Electric Forest was a blast, and of course a few bad things will happen when a group of people that enormous get together. Are there other festivals out there? Tons. But none of them are like EF. All that being said, I’m praying for a speedy recovery for the young man who was involved in the accident. Hopefully someone will get some REAL information out there soon.
I worked ef so I know exactly what happened he was on bath salts he punched out a cars windows started stabbing his self as the cops got closer to him then he slit his own throat he’s still alive though

This is so disturbing. This year was so much different than any other. It didn’t feel like family at all. This will probably be my last electric forest ever. It’s really sad. Hope this guy is ok.

MIchael Lips is correct he is not telling a here say story..media is totally trying to cover this up…I too know the girl who’s car mirror was broken off…she saw him with the mirror glass and went in tent and next thing they know they heard gurgling noises and blood was spraying on their tent…he slit both wrists….neck…and legs…I can’t even imagine what these people who witnessed or heard these awful sounds are going through or the family impacted by this senseless act…poor girls and surrounding must have been terrified…and then to have to get out of tent after hearing that…it was everywhere their tent, car, cooler and all around…unreal!!! like something from a horror movie.
He cut his own neck with a piece of broken glass. He was jogging and laughing as he did it. unfortunately..That IS what happened.
I wish people would learn to enjoy music and dance with out any drugs at all….it is a sign of immaturity and lack of spirituality to not be able to do so….our bodies are designed to be able to have incredible experiences without any drugs at all….in fact all that is necessary is Breathing and listening…..if you do this in a true intentional way the body will naturally attune with the music and the rhythm will set you free…the natural chemicals released will offer your brain the amount of true drugs it need to be opened and awakened.
We have glorified drugs in our culture and they are representive of rebellion but how wise is it to rebel when we not only hurt ourselves but loose touch with our natural abilities to open our minds to the universe and free our souls?
I have been a raver / dancer for over 15 years…I haven’t done any drugs in about 7. I truly can say that it’s the best experience I ever have …listening to music sober letting my body dance without the need for chemicals and being awakened by light and vibration that we are given in nature to experience…..
less is more many times but our culture has long forgotten this…..Wake up …..be wise…..learn to let go …..put the drugs in the gutter where they belong and become a more mindful person by teaching yourself how to be able to do what nature intended through your own efforts to elevate your conscious ……

Wake the fuck people there were 44000 in ga alone. Do the statistics with that meny people in the area atleast 20 will have a medical emergency and 1 will die. Instead of blaming people or companys for the unforseen and unfortunate things that happen to people…

The media tells lies just to instill fear in people. From what I seen at the festival was a lot of love and happiness from a big group of people. The only ones who make it look bad are the people who are just coming into the scene and don’t know much about it. So I suggest for those people who don’t know how to treat people with peace love unity respect either learn how or don’t even go. These events are not to be taken lightly and if someone needs help and you see them struggling then do whatever you can to make that happen. Don’t just run away in fear because you could have saved someones life.
Prayers going out to the family of the lost one….sigh….I actually lost a friend at a festival once, he was prescribed pain killers and only smoked bud, but apparently his sleep apnea did not take well to the meds, he never woke up in the tent we all shared….sucked so bad. And then. I ended up 17miles away in the hospital from being roofied…heart stopped, I have not been the same since….like a part of my soul was ripped away when I died and came back….no fun, super scary….know your limits and know your connects….
This happened right outside of my friends tent. They heard something and poked their head out of the tent and saw that this guy ripped off the side view mirror of her car and broke it. Must have been what they heard, because when they looked out they actually saw him slit his own throat. They were pretty sure he cut his wrists too. They went to get help and the guy started stabbing himself in the legs. Law enforcement chased him until he collapsed.
I also worked the festival, I know for certain there were more overdose deaths than just the one reported. The hammock story is a lie, hammocks didn’t even have cable wires. Dude went crazy and fucked himself up, but the idiot lived. We’ll see him next year scar and all.

@cheshire pixie …. we had a medical emergency of our own so we spent some time in the main medical tent talking to all the doctors and officers that first responded to the scene. A woman on horseback witnessed the entire thing and recounted the etire incident to us

According to my good friend who’s there: “Someone hung up their hammock with metal and someone was running through and slit his throat on the metal.. Didn’t die but it was a medical emergency.” So crazy… o_0
we can only hope that, while nobody dies, enough incidents occur, and electric forest doesn’t happen anymore, and rothbury fest comes back.
