Danny Darko commences the 16th Conspectus Chapter with his overdue remix of “Mad World.” I think it’s obvious why it was overdue. The deep house freebie took on a big original, yet it did justice to the iconic tune without a doubt. I really dig what is going on with the vocal; the changes that the Italian producer made were interesting, but not too far-fetched. Usually when you hear about a big room remix of a recently released hit by a mainstage DJ, you expect a certain product. However, Landis and Crespo‘s EDC Mix of “How You Love Me” would prove your assumption wrong entirely. They do big room right and for that reason, I’d love to see this get played out at EDC by someone big this weekend. Maybe we will? It certainly has enough energy to rock a crowd of thousands.
Steve James brings the only progressive track to the table with his remix of SomeKindaWonderful’s “Reverse.” His melodic work is enriched with emotion that will connect with you instantly. If the Cleveland act had asked for a huge festival remix, this would be the most optimal song for the calling. I was just turned on to Steve James for the first time by this song, so you can be sure I’ll stay up to date on his work from now on. I think you will too.
The more deep house the merrier. That’s why Juan Kidd was called up with his original, “Are You The One.” Faye Solomon gets you into the mood right away, then Juan Kidd comes in with the funky beat. Both continue together like a perfect couple and when the beat takes over the reigns alone, what comes through the speakers will get you grooving hard. The piano chords just sound so good, I absolutely love it. Although the song isn’t long, it’s a great one for sure!
“Gryphon” is the product of Desso and Johan K. The melbourne monster may not have an atypical build, yet I liked the use of counterpoint in it and it led perfectly to the insane drop. Bouncy bass was brought, but only for sixteen measures; after which a cool trap beat takes it place. Then back into the bounce. It takes you a lot of places, but all of them good. “Gryphon” is just the kind of thing you will need on this Friday night. Take it home with you, along with the other tracks that make up this week’s Conspectus Chapter.
