Grammy-award winner Maxwell just recently sat down to do an interview with Rolling Stone where he talks about his new album, his summer tour and his interest in EDM.
Two years ago, he was set to hit a few major cities in the US to perform his entire discography over the course of back-to-back nights — his first two the initial night, his latter two the second night. However, tragedy struck as he had to have surgery to “repair a ruptured vocal cord, a procedure that took him off the road and slowed the recording of his fifth album.”
Good news though, he’s now back and ready to embark on a nearly 40-date summer tour with new material to show. Rolling Stone asked if he had ever been to an EDM show:
I’ve been to EDM shows. I love them. Big fan of so many of those guys. I do believe there’s a new wave of a certain sound, you know a Chris Malinchak and Cyril Hahn. Disclosure. Things are getting more soulful, and I’m excited about that. I think that that’s a good look. But I love all that stuff.
Good to know that Maxwell has distanced himself from the flame war that is the difference between genres. In his mind, EDM is becoming more soulful and that’s awesome. Listening to producers like Cyril Hahn and Disclosure can certainly do that for you. And if he’s at all influenced by their fresh sounds, then it wouldn’t be too far a stretch to think that many EDM fans might enjoy Maxwell’s new work. No release date or other information available about that yet.
