Armed with his debut release for No Tomorrow Recordings, Diamond Pistols is continuing his explosive foray into the bass scene. Otherwise known as Christian Dold, last year saw the release of the young producer’s debut EP on none other than Datsik’s Firepower Records. Having smashed its way to number one on Beatport, he naturally caught the attention of many high profile producers including Steve Aoki, Carnage and DJ Snake, whilst receiving airplay on the ‘Diplo & Friends’ radio show. Taking things into 2014, Dold was enlisted to remix the smash hit ‘Dirty Funkin’ Beats” from Chuckie, which was dropped on Big Beat Records. He is also working with ETC!ETC! on a Trap/Big Room fusion; recognition for this producer’s work is spreading. Having caught the eye of Dubstep legend and tastemaker SKisM, he signed ‘Wrecker’ to Never Say Die’s sister Electro label and it drops on June 2nd. I wanted to find out more about this exciting artist so caught up for a chat.
We just had a listen to your energetic forthcoming track ‘Wrecker’ out 2nd June via No Tomorrow Recordings. You have already worked with Datsik’s Firepower, how does it feel to be working with the legend SKisM and his label?
It’s incredible! SKisM has been one of my favourites for ages. I remember seeing him play for the first time at Paradiso festival in the summer of 2012 and being completely blown away by his set. It was an amazing feeling hearing that he wanted to sign a track of mine.
‘Wrecker’ has more of an electro feel compared to your debut EP on Firepower and the insane free downloads on your SoundCloud. Are you focusing more on that route now or just showing the fans your versatility?
A little bit of both. It honestly comes down to what I’m feeling at the moment. When I sit down to write a tune, the last thing I think about is what genre the finished product is going to be. I still love Dubstep, but that’s just not where my creative energy has been lately. One of my favourite things about writing music is the ability to explore new genres and areas of music.
Are you taking inspiration from any other artists at the moment that led you to making ‘Wrecker’?
Not really any one place in particular. I draw inspiration from a ton of different places, but as far as music goes, some of the most inspirational artists to me lately have been Mr. Carmack, Wiwek, What So Not, Ape Drums, Wave Racer, GTA, Milo & Otis, Mercer, and Tchami to name a few.
2013 was a big introduction to your music, what have you got planned release-wise this year? Can we expect future releases on No Tomorrow Recordings?
Right now I’m working on a bunch of stuff, but I have two things in particular that I’m real excited about. The first is a 140bpm collab with ETC!ETC! that will hopefully be finished very soon. The second is a collab with an artist that is much, much bigger than myself that I have looked up to for a while…that’s all I can say on that for now, but needless to say people will not be disappointed!
Finally, what are your top three tunes to play out live at the moment?
1. Skrillex, Kill The Noise, and Milo & Otis’ remix of ‘NRG’ is definitely one of my favourites at the moment. Everything about this song is just so well done; it’s the perfect summer vibes song.
2. Another one of my favourites to play is an edit that Chuckie made of my ‘Bugatti’ remix. It’s not out yet, but there’s a few videos of him playing it out there on the net…goes off everytime!
3. Gregor Salto & Wiwek – ‘On Your Mark’. Pretty much everyone is playing this track right now, because it’s fucking amazing! It’s one of those rare tracks thats super original, but works in almost every setting.
