When Recess dropped this past week, producers big and small immediately took to the seemingly easy-to-replicate sound; a slew of re-works came out, including one from Firepower Recs’ Tim Ismag, most commonly of “All Is Fair.” Shawn Wasabi, however, took it one further and decided to mash up the whole album on his Midi Fighter Spectra.
It works because Skrillex makes his sounds for live shows and replicating and mashing them up is using them for their intended purpose. It works to great effect and we’re able to hear some pretty awesome intertwining bits from each of the tracks, but the underlying track remains “Recess” throughout.
