After seven long months, the Veld Music Festival official aftermovie is here. The second annual Veld fest, held in Toronto during early August 2013, was an action packed two-day EDM festival featuring some of the best artists in the industry. The line up included Kaskade, Pretty Lights, Above & Beyond, Danny Tenaglia, Seven Lions, Dada Life, John Digweed, Steve Angello, Dirty South, and Toronto’s own deadmau5. Veld presented simultaneous sets on only two stages, a “tech tent” and a main stage with festivities concluding each day by coalescing the crowd at the main stage for one final set, Above & Beyond on day 1, and deadmau5 to wrap up the festival as a whole.
Maybe it’s just the fact that it was my first ever festival, but Veld holds a very special place in my heart, and the after movie is a wonderful way to reminisce on those pivotal moments of the weekend. Although it was made to seem more of a hippie-fest than it actually was, the after movie is able to successfully portray the amazing vibes of the crowd, some backstage action of the artists, and those huge musical moments of the festival that stick out so well in our minds. It features everything from Steve Aoki’s epic cake throw landing in the face of the wheelchair-bound rager, to a plethora of people donning banana costumes for Dada, to Krewella jamming out as per usual, to the terrifying confetti-spitting clown head in the tech tent, and of course features my two favorite experiences of my EDM life thus far: Above & Beyond’s emotional and magical set closing out day 1 and deadmau5’s flawless, awe-inspiring set drawing Veld Fest 2013 to a close.
Although I didn’t make it into the after movie last year, I have high hopes for 2014. Hint Hint, Veld.
