Disclaimer:
Before I even get into any content, I feel the need to share a disclaimer. In no way am I condoning the the recreational use of MDMA. I urge anyone to be careful and prepare if they are going to partake in ingesting MDMA, or any other psychoactive substance. The results and findings of these studies are from users, not abusers. Medicinal dosages are given to patients who need the therapeutic effects we will get to in a second. This is totally not the same thing as taking two mollies and going out to party your ass off.
Article:
Now that we got that out of the way let’s move on to the latest deterioration of prohibition and the war on drugs. You may have guessed that it’s centered upon MDMA, which is correct; the highly debated “party drug” has just seen another country add it to their clinical trials list. Canada has approved these trials along with the importation of the drug from Switzerland’s facility which accounts for one of the two official facilities in the world. Currently the United States and the United Kingdom are the only other places where medical MDMA is being pursued at this level.
This discussion is not a new one; the benefits MDMA (and Psilocybin) has posed to people with depression, PTSD and even couples who need marriage counseling. From rave drug to psycho-therapeutic aid is where the compound is headed, but that does not mean that the coast is clear and the drug will never be abused again. Hell, even Dr. Ingrid Pacey from Canada is worried about the current situation; she says her tension will subside once the drugs are in fact delivered to Canada.
Drugs will always be a hot topic, they’ll always be abused and there will always be drugs in EVERY clique. From the lowliest low to the highest high (no pun intended), every social class, every culture and every person has dealt with drugs either themselves or have seen it as a third party, whether it be with MDMA specifically or other drugs. I realize that’s definitely a little too generalized, even just considering first world countries, but one aspect of drug use that fails to hit the papers is the fact that “everyone” does drugs and that’s what I want to drive home there. It doesn’t make it right, but it does force you to have to think of how this can be dealt with in the best way.
These clinical trials are part of that solution. They will offer insights about drugs and their effects on the human body, so that people can make informed decisions about what they choose to ingest. Knowledge is power and thanks to Dr. Ingrid Pacey and everyone else involved over there in Canada we are taking the steps to find out the benefits, as well as side-effects of this jolly compound. You have to take the good with the bad. To conclude this segment I am going to drop my opinion on the whole “war on drugs” and say that it should be over and decriminalizing drugs like what has been done in Portugal, Norway the Czech Republic and so many other countries. Let’s actually deal with our problem instead of trying to stomp it out.
