2013 may have been a big year for Daft Punk but 2014 is already shaping up to be just as successful and eventful.
After winning Album of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammys, Daft Punk also secured themselves a footnote in the annals of 2014 by performing a memorable TV set with their heroes Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder.
Recently, on Giorgio Moroder’s Facebook page, it was announced that Random Access Memories has been certified Platinum. After their achievements and popularity over these past 12 months, this announcement may not come as a surprise.
Random Access Memories was released after a hefty marketing campaign which created a lot of hype. The new sound divided the fan base, as people searching for a sequel to Discovery were sorely disappointed.
However, that didn’t stop the majority of the public enjoying every minute of the album, with some people eventually changing their opinions after their gut reaction against it. What they perhaps realised was that Random Access Memories is indeed a sequel of sorts to Discovery. Like Discovery, Daft Punk indulged themselves by recreating the sounds and music they admire so much; this task they set themselves can be seen in the impressive roster they drew up, which brought together the likes of Nile Rodgers, Panda Bear and of course Giorgio Moroder. Instead of sampling and using their old music, Daft Punk decided to work with them and create new music.
Daft Punk have always done their own thing regardless of the dislike of others. They knew that they were going for something radically different, while declaring plans to ‘Give Life Back To Music’. This belligerent attitude has something of the spirit of punk itself… But then again, this can also be viewed as extremely daft.
Regardless, we’re clearly loving what they’re doing.
Total shart!!! Anyone who can have respect for this group are complete tools and probably suck at life
