Youtube Has Paid Music Industry Over $1 Billion

Youtube

Streaming services have had their issues with paying artists before, but Youtube proclaimed they are not to be fired at because they have paid the music industry over $1 billion in “the last several years” says Vice President Tom Pickett. Youtube runs an ad-supported model, which is in fact generating money and at least some of that is going to the artists and creative people who push content onto the site. After receiving ill words at Cannes this week, the company defended itself promptly and it’s safe to say they are making moves to reimburse artists for their hard work.

I will not be surprised if this issue is raised again if Youtube makes the move to implement their previously talked about premium on-demand streaming service. We are told we will “have to see” whether or not that plan will still be executed, but more information on that will be presented as it comes out.
