Right around this time every month, The Magician reveals another edition of his meticulously curated ‘Magic Tape’ series; an hour long mix that continuously mesmerizes its listeners with a tantalizing blend of house and nu-disco cuts. As one of The Magician’s ardent followers, earlier today I made my monthly pilgrimage back to his soundcloud page in hopes of something great, and to my delight my expectations were immensely exceeded.
This time around, instead of diving head first into January’s tape, I stumbled onto the Belgian virtuoso’s latest remix of Clean Bandit‘s record, ‘Rather Be’. After being championed by Zane Lowe as his Hottest Record in December of last year, there is no denying that the foundation of this remix was already something to be celebrated. Twisting and contorting the original in the gentlest of ways, The Magician expertly retains the effervescent melodies of the original while injecting an ingeniously sensual yet danceable flair. I’ve had this record on repeat all day and will be literally counting down the days until its release, so I highly suggest giving it a listen.
