Astronaut Launch into the Stratosphere with Destination: Apollo [Monstercat/Disciple]

astronautThe dynamic UK bass duo Astronaut made their debut on Monstercat this week with a re-release of their hit song “Apollo,” along with remixes from Dodge & Fuski, SLDGHMR, Barely Alive, DKS and The Brig. The original, which features an infectious melody, strong male vocals, and glitchy basslines intertwined with epic melodic vocal chops, is one of the best tunes I’ve heard all year! I can’t commend Astronaut enough for managing to find the perfect balance between dirty electro bass and other more melodic aspects of the track, which is something that a lot of other producers in the bass music scene struggle with.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more aggressive (I always am), then Barely Alive‘s remix is definitely the one for you! This time around, the Massachusetts based duo went with more of a moombahcore feel, something we haven’t really seen much of from them before and they pulled it off fantastically. This masterfully crafted remix has anything and everything you could ever want in a bass music banger: epic drop, catchy synths, heavy, yet melodic basslines, wicked sound design — you name it, Barely Alive did it and better than most. This remix is easily the best of the bunch; that’s not to say the others aren’t good, in fact they’re all pretty great, but Barely Alive‘s is definitely a cut above the rest! Some of my other favorites ones we’re Dodge & Fuski‘s funky-fresh glitch-hop remix as well as The Brig‘s, which puts a much heavier electro spin on the original. Which remix is your favorite?
