Electric Daisy Carnival Unlikely to Return to Chicago in 2014

edc-chicago-youredmAfter the inaugural EDC Chicago festival in Joliet this past Memorial Day Weekend, numerous noise complaints from surrounding areas were reported. Insomniac and city officials have been trying to work out alternatives for the festival’s return, but we have learned that unfortunately, the prospects are not looking good for a return to the Windy City in 2014.

Although EDC Chicago generated an estimated $10.9 million in wages for local workers, festivals this big must juggle an wide variety of factors to succeed. Replying to a fan question, Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella recently tweeted that EDC Chicago was most likely off the table for 2014.

Luckily, this doesn’t spell the end for the idea of a Chicago EDC festival in the future. We spoke to Insomniac Spokesperson Jennifer Forkish, who explained the reasoning behind this unfortunate news. If all goes well, the festival will be back by 2015.

While nothing has been set in stone, at this point it’s unlikely that we’ll produce EDC Chicago in 2014.  We still haven’t found the perfect venue that works on the right dates, and when we produce festivals our top priority is always the fan experience. We’re not willing to compromise that. While things can change,  we are definitely planning on bringing EDC back to the Chicago area in 2015.
