Flume and Chris Emerson (Emoh Instead) a.k.a What So Not were a surprise favorite of mine after hearing their “The Quack (WSN Club Dubs) EP” via OWSLA’s Nest IV. The release included one of the strangest and most creative trap tunes I’ve heard called “The Quack” which used humorous duck samples to earn a chuckle and an approving nod all in one fell swoop.
They followed up soon after with the release of their “The Quack EP” which had a version of “The Quack” sporting rhymes from Action Bronson and others as well as, “High You Are” and “Like This Like That” . I personally loved both the dub and vocal versions of “High You Are” and when I saw that there was a remix EP for it coming soon, I was enthralled to see what kind of remixes it would encompass. The EP features remixes from SCNTST, Motez, The Only, Astronomar, Branchez and for Nest IV exclusive release Adapt or Die. My favorite thing about remix EP’s is discovering new artists to enjoy and with this particular release, Astronomar was the only artist I was familiar with from his Nick Catchdubs remix.
I can honestly say that the whole EP is worth listening to. Each featured remix artist expanded on different aspects of the original song with Motez‘s being a favorite one with its deep house flair. That being said, Branchez‘s remix was another favorite; expanding on the original by injecting heaps of real trap flavor.
If you’re looking for something different and excellent I can’t recommend this EP enough. I knew only one artist coming into this and came out impressed with every one of them.
