That line from the Kanye West track So Appalled reflects the sentiments many feel towards what used to be one of the greatest T.V stations in the world. The channel that once had you dancing in your living room, now has you rolling your eyes so far back into your head in a vain attempt of blocking out the likes of Pauly D and pregnant whiny teenagers. It’s highly ironic that the first video MTV ever played was The Buggles: Video Killed the Radio Star. In a sense, MTV killed themselves and the music, with endless moronic spiels of ‘reality’ TV. 
Now, as usual, Deadmau5 wants his input.
After MTV had happily announced that Deadmau5 will be nominated for Best Canadian Act, he shot them down by replying, “Meh. Can I somehow opt out of this? @mtvema”.

Things got considerably more heated after he stated his reasons for hating and then getting called ‘ungrateful’.

Deadmau5 wouldn’t be the first to put down any nominations by a long shot. Eminem has always been very vocal about his dislike for awards and Hollywood legend Marlon Brando was perhaps too vocal at practicing his dislike. However, you can’t help but feel that Deadmau5 has a point. Who cares what anyone thinks about your music… Or is it truly that simple? Was it ever truly just about the music?

That’s alright to say if you’re flying high class celebs around in your Ferrari for coffee and interviews. But still, he has made a bold move and hopefully he sticks to it. Obviously he is uncomfortable with being lumped in with the likes of Drake, Justin Bieber, Tegan and Sarah and The Weeknd, who also received nominations for the award.
Whatever happens, it’s always nice to be nominated. We wish him the best of luck.
Being nominated in a category that includes Justin Bieber is reason enough to opt out.

Deadmau5 has a point, music award shows are now popularity contests for artist with no talent. MTV should have music back on there channel rather then their shitty shows.

MTV thought they could screw EDM artists and there would be no blowback? WRONG mutherfuckers. Wrong. Putting Daft Punk and One Direction in the same category just exposes the disconnect between the EDM and the fabricated POP culture.
