Moby & Sobering Up

No matter who you are, the eminent party lifestyle will catch up to you. Whether it be drinking, drugs, or just staying up until 5 AM every night, everything will take its toll. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Moby discussed his struggles with the exciting and fast paced lifestyle of a being a superstar.

I remember lying to my doctor, saying it was somewhere between 30 to 40 and he was even concerned at that. I was having about 300 drinks a month. That made me realise it was maybe time to stop.”

He elaborates on nights that would end up to be embarrassing moments the next day, but the party never stopped. Night after night he would find himself stumbling drunk, barely cognizant of anything around him.

“Luckily, even after decades of being a falling-down drunk, healthwise, I emerged relatively unscathed, which is baffling to me. I will pass homeless people on the street and think: ‘Wow, if things had gone a little differently, that would have been me.’”

He now jokingly refers to himself as “a fully fledged southern California cliché” now that he goes to AA consistently.  Yet, in all seriousness, it is encouraging to hear people like Moby speak out on this topic because it can be a problem overlooked by most. This is not to say partying is a sin, but it demands some sort of self control. Without that, a lifestyle of this caliber can wear your body down. Check out the full interview below and share your thoughts about it!
