Tim Bergling, commonly known as Avicii, has been a main target for criticism but, the Swedish DJ has seen a lot of recent success. His singles “Wake Me Up” and “You Make Me” have both been climbing up the Billboard Top 100 charts even with millions of fans being apprehensive about his new direction in music. Avicii decided to sit down and talk with Country Music Television Edge about the country influence on his new album, True. In the interview Avicii stated:
“Honestly, I didn’t have a specific audience in mind. I had no boundaries when making this album. I did all of the tracks for myself more than anything, and I really believed in my own judgment. I’ve always been open to listening to everything, and you can see that in my album. That’s why I called the album True because everything happened so fluently, and there was never a set plan behind anything. I didn’t plan to mix genres, but it’s what I liked, what sounded right, so I went for it.”
Don’t know why people are so apprehensive about it, Wake me up is a sick tune and its something new that pushed the boundaries of established sounds to new places…
if you like the mix of generes check this http://soundcloud.com/awstrush/biopunk-awst-rush-feat-2 indie rock meets progressive house is an awesome energetic and powerful emotional tune.
Even though I don’t really get too excited when I hear “Wake Me Up”, I respect Avicii for not taking the easy way out. Basically an album with 10+ songs that sound the same.
it still doesn’t change the fact that his music is horridly underproduced, with empty sounding synths and extremely cookie cutter arrangement. sure, he blended two genres cause he used a guitar sample and looped it over and over again, but that’s by no means pushing any boundaries or showing any kinds of real skill as a producer in making full, complete sounding music. it just speaks to the fact that the masses love music that doesn’t make them think. NOT pushing boundries is what has made him so famous this past year or two. its why the likes of brittany spears and justin bieber and will.i.am get so big. true, talented artists usually (with rare exception like Armin or deadmau5 or the like) don’t get past cult followings or mild international success, but businessmen – like avicii has proved himself to be – grab at the hot ticket and ride it all the way to the bank. kudos to him for making himself into a success worldwide, but people shouldn’t confuse that with him being a honest-to-goodness talented musician and producer. hes still just a kid with fruityloops on his laptop, checking little boxes in sequencer view and loading pre-made factory synths……
