Burning Man has become recognized as one of the United States and beyond’s most recognizable, yet indescribable festival for the unacquainted attendee. Google Maps took it upon themselves to help out the first time festival goers as well as those of us less fortunate and not able to be in attendance.
The few snapshots we’ve featured here are awe inspiring to say the least. Never having personally attending Burning Man, I’ll leave it to the more deserving to preview the experience the gathering can provide.
Taken directly from an essay describing the experience on the Burning Man homepage, this is a snippet of the the way Molly Steenson describes her time there,
“You’re here to experience. Ride your bike in the expanse of nothingness with your eyes closed. Meet the theme camp — enjoy Irrational Geographic, relax at Bianca’s Smut Shack and eat a grilled cheese sandwich. Find your love and understand each other as you walk slowly under a parasol. Wander under the veils of dust at night on the playa.
You’re here to celebrate. On Saturday night, we’ll burn the Man. As the procession starts, the circle forms, and the man ignites, you experience something personal, something new to yourself, something you’ve never felt before. It’s an epiphany, it’s primal, it’s newborn. And it’s completely individual.”

I hope EDM kids never start going to burning man. As a burner myself I can say that’s the last thing it needs is douchy kids coming in ruing it and making a mess everywhere. This isn’t like a normal festival that people go to just to do drugs. This is something else entirely. And being a raver myself I can tell you that some people can o and have a great time but if burning man becomes a fad for raver kids to go to also then its gonna be terrible for burning man.
