It began as a dream two brothers developed into what is now a reigning label in electronic dance music, pushing out some of the biggest releases this world has ever heard as well as crafting a sound like none other. I’m talking about Toolroom Records, the label that was first started by Mark and Stuart Knight in their very own tool shed. Over the past ten years, it has grown to dominate the charts of dance music, issuing hits from stars like David Guetta, Dirty South, Benny Bennassi as well as establishing the careers of big names like Fedde le Grand and Funkagenda, to name a few. It goes without saying their presence has helped shape the movement of electronic dance music and also carve out a unique sound that has given birth to hits in nearly every genre.
To commemorate their ten-year anniversary, Toolroom Records has released an exclusive, three disc compilation album, TEN, mixed by the very man who built the company, Mark Knight. It features over 100 defining tracks that shaped the label throughout the years and fueled it to become what it now is today.
Early gems like Audio Drive’s “I Feel Good” and Knight’s “Insatiable” thunder through disc one that, while being tracks nearly a decade old, could still rock any club at any time. Disco two provides a deeper, tribal sound including Stefano Noferini’s “Burujava”, Adam K & Soha’s “Question”, and even Knight’s massive remix of Florence & The Machine’s “You Got the Love”. It encapsulates the period in which Toolroom developed their signature sound that influenced so many hits across the EDM world, like Manuel De La Mare’s remix to le Grand’s “Metrum”.

Nothing tops the third and final disc as Knight mixes in a wealth of hits that set milestones on the Beatport charts. Tracks from Richard Dinsdale, Hardwell, Digitalism, as well as the memorable, “Ten”, featuring Underwold and Sander Van Doorn, illustrate why this label is the best of the best. It has been an unforgettable ten years and here’s to another decade of great music from Toolroom Records!
