Henry Steinway may not be a name you’re particularly familiar with, but you’ve probably come across either of his monikers, Clockwork or RL Grime. His side project of exploring the world of trap is still relatively new, as only a couple years have gone by since his first release under RL Grime. He hasn’t seemed to slow down his pace at all, with his Infinite Daps tour with Baauer coming to a close and the recent release of his High Beams EP.
What really stood out to me in this EP was how unique and dynamic RL Grime’s style has become. From “Pockets” to “CliqCliq”, the blend of electronic music and hip-hop has truly become a thrilling world of it’s own. I am left unable to pick out a favorite from the 5 tracks, even though I’ve probably played “Secondary” & “Heard Me” about 50 times so far this week. Above all, after just one day on the iTunes market, the EP has already reached the #1 album seller spot, which is definitely a rare sight to see for trap music these days! Be sure to give this EP a listen below, and head over to iTunes or Beatport to purchase the High Beams EP!
