Seven Artists for the Seven Days Until Camp Bisco

biscogrounds3

The one festival on everyone’s lips this July is none other than Camp Bisco, the three day camping extravaganza by The Disco Biscuits and MCP Presents. The only one of its kind in the upstate New York area, this festival beckons to all the New York state ravers who can not reach New York City for shows. Not to mention the people who travel across the country or in some cases, the world, to participate in this eclectic event. This year’s line up has something to satisfy nearly any palate, from dubstep to jam bands to house. With the festival beginning on Thursday the 11th, it’s time to show seven acts to get studied up on before the gates open on Wednesday night.

Grandtheft

Of all the genres to be heard at Camp Bisco, there will be plenty of trap to go around. Last year it was a change of pace to hear 3LAU drop a trap bootleg of progressive house hit “Calling“, but in 2013, trap is everywhere. Bisco has contracted many of the big names in trap for this year’s festival. His remix of “Sweet Nothing” with Diplo is indisputably one of trap music’s anthems. Their remix of Calvin Harris is perhaps the biggest trap remix out there, right alongside RL Grime‘s “Satisfaction“, who also will be playing at Camp Bisco. He appeared on Diplo and Friends not too long ago, laying down this killer mix, offering a glimpse in what to expect from him live.

Flux Pavilion

Personally, I do not dabble much in dubstep. However, there are a couple who I can appreciate, Flux Pavilion being one of them. He’s been at the forefront of his genre for the past few years, his approachable sound being a major factor. His old hits like the “Cracks” remix are what stirred up raver buzz about his music, new works like Blow The Roof kept them there, and his stage prescience converts all the rest to believers. At Ultra Music Festival this past year he performed with Doctor P, and threw down this set filled with surprises.

Boys Noize

His label Boys Noize Records is having its own tent at Camp Bisco this year, versus Skrillex‘s OWSLA label. Although Skrillex is not playing at this year’s festival unlike last year, Boys Noize will be bringing his signature style to the table. With his Out of the Black album that came out last October, he has plenty of material to share with those attending this Mariaville festival. Even more recently, his Go Hard EP came out at the end of June, which has a smattering of acid, trap, techno and even some disco. So in other words, Boys Noize‘s set at Camp Bisco is going to be a no holds barred medley of all things dance music.

Zoogma

Sometimes the guys at the bottom of the list get overlooked, but Zoogma is one that is sure to turn heads. This four member group from Mississippi has a rather innovative spin on hip hop, drawing influence from both modern trap music and Bisco headliners like STS9 and The Disco Biscuits. This group seamlessly blends electronic elements like synthesizers and sampling with the sultry sounds of guitars and traditional rock aesthetics.

Destructo

One of the Boys Noize Records releasees at Camp Bisco this year is HARD Events founder, Destructo. He recently released his techy “Higher” effort, filled out with remixes by Brodinski and fellow Bisco performer, Tommy Trash. In 2012, he released his Technology EP which is highlighted by “La Funky“, his collaboration with Oliver and the title track, “Technology“. These two take the sensibilities of techno and put a body moving house touch to them, great efforts from Destructo.

Wolfgang Gartner

“This is why I play Wu-Tang”. With quotes like this, its clear that Kindergarten label head Wolfgang Gartner plays what he, and he alone, thinks is right and proper. While many of his contemporaries in progressive and electro stick to the Beatport Top 100, Wolfgang Gartner always seems to have a shock factor to his sets. Expecting his tracks like “Anaconda” and “Overdose” are a given, but this is one act not to miss due to his outside-the-box tendencies when manning the decks. Considering Camp Bisco is known for its sheer diversity in booked talent, Bisco goers may just be in for a wild and all over the place performance from Wolfgang Gartner.

Strip Steve

Yet another artist from Boys Noize Records at Camp Bisco this year, Strip Steve has a brilliant house sound. He is certainly one of the diamonds in the rough on this year’s line up, with only eight thousand SoundCloud followers, yet a solid discography behind him. His Micro Mega album came out just about a year ago now, highlighted by techy house tracks “Hood” and “Radiocheck“. More recently, he worked with Junior Sanchez on a tribute to the recently passed house maestro and “One More Time” “Too Long” singer, Romanthony. They titled it “4 Roman“, and its sound harkens back to old school house records, back in the days when house was a “religion”.

These seven artists are just the icing on the cake, the Camp Bisco line up has plenty more acts that are sure to leave the campers awestruck. Come find Your EDM staff members Jacob Marmor, Petey McGuire and myself at Camp Bisco, we are friendly and love to meet our fans! See you in Mariaville.
