To kick off the opening of the biggest and most lavish club in Las Vegas, Hakkasan employed the skills of Joel Zimmerman, more famously known as deadmau5 to set the tone for an impressive preview weekend. Hakkasan is none other than the 5 story monstrous club at the MGM Grand, that acquired a wide array of top notch acts, ranging from deadmau5 (signed up with a $20 million contract for 2 years) to Tiesto (gets payed $250,000 per show) and young superstar Hardwell (around $150,000 per show). But even with all that disposable income invested in the increasingly big EDM scene, the managers behind Hakkasan didn’t see eye to eye with all the club goers. As most of you know, a deadmau5 show is synonymous with custom made, home built mau5 heads and yet the promoters and managers didn’t seem to get the memo, since all who came with their personal creations were turned down and sent back home.
Hey, @hakkasanlv@dj_killshotum, why are we denying entry to those with mau5heads? That’s not how I roll. Fix please.

After hearing about this, Deadmau5, as he always does, took to twitter to express his discontent, demanding Hakkasan to let all those with mau5 heads entrance into the venue. Hakkasan obliged as they weren’t about to anger their biggest act. This shows you that whether you love him or hate him, deadmau5 does support his fans and sadly that cannot be said for all big artists out there.
Fixed. If your planning on brining a mau5head to the @hakkasanlv show(s) you’re very much welcome. Fans before bottle poppers. #vivalahorde

Well I do think that deadmau5 supports his fans, but how many artists out there have their fan bases constructing large and sometimes obtrusive helmets to mimic the artist? Pretty sure just him and a problem that other artists don’t have. So to say that deadmau5 is somehow superior in his fan support because he like people making these effigies to him just to me seems a little….short sighted.
Joel Thomas Zimmerman Everybody.
good man mau5 good man.
HAHAHAHA YES! This makes me smile a lot.
I can’t tell if Hakkasan was denying them entrance because they found the heads obtrusive or if it was one of those “dress code” things. Dunno. The “Fans before bottle poppers” makes it seem to me like its a dress code thing, as in hakkasan didn’t want goofy looking mau5heads in their club, only scantly clad women and bottle popping bros.
I don’t think anyone was trying to say he is “superior” to other artists just for sticking up for his fans who wanted to party in headgear. 🙂
There’s no big meaning behind the reason Deadmau5 tweeted to let them in,
There we’re his fan obviously, I’ve never went to a show where the main act is like.
“Fans Fucking taking it to far this time! SEND EM HOME!”
He did right.
Awesome tactic by using twitter.
Not superior, but he certainly didn’t have to tweet, DURING HIS PERFORMANCE (assuming based on time stamp), and effectively demand his peeps be let in. He could have simply addressed it the next day. But he didn’t. He got his peeps in.
fixed in 9 minutes? wow, they follow twitter very hard on a show time. super (i guess) for both..
In Vegas, the DJs don’t go on until 1am at the earliest.
I do wonder if it was even a security thing, can’t inspect everyone’s “mau5head” and who knows what people could bring in there, (though highly unlikely the building, acts, or any person of interest would attract a bomb threat or weapons etc.. I do think that’s pretty awesome to see a response like that from both the act and the venue just through social media.
What denies him to post during show??
The Class-Act of Mau5.
yeah really in what part of that, did it say mau5 thought he was superior knowone said that, the only thing close to that would be his tweet saying fans before bottle poppers which would only mean the fans are superior
Deadmau5 is a REAL DJ. sticks up for his fans even if it means not getting paid.. someone who truly cares about the scene… ohhhh and Your EDM get writers who actually know how to spell aka me. oh and I love the scene probably more than your writers. just saying, thanks joel.
Mau5 is loyal to his fans in Toronto 2011 show he paid 1.2 million out of his own pocket to keep playing until 2:00-2:30 am @ the Rogers center
