Despite EDM’s explosive growth in the US over the last few years, one aspect of the scene that’s been largely ignored stateside is Hard Dance/Hardstyle. While big room house, trance, and dubstep tend to dominate the clubs and festivals there has been very few offerings for fans of hard dance or hardstyle. Insomniac helped bridge that gap to a degree with last year’s Q-Dance stage at EDC Las Vegas, and now they are taking that one step further with the announcement of a new Insomniac sub-brand, Basscon. Insomniac’s Bassrush sub-brand for dubstep and drum & bass events has been a big success; I’ve personally attended a number of the events they’ve thrown in Los Angeles and they have all been packed. As far as we know, this is the first major hard dance brand in the US and will hopefully foster the growth of those styles even further. To kick off the brand, Insomniac is planning a Bassrush vs. Basscon event slated for February 2013 with 2 stages and a lot of heavy music. Insomnaic CEO Pasquale Rotella had this to say about the announcement:
Get ready hard dance lovers!! In the process of finalizing logos of the launch of our new brand #Basscon . Any thoughts on the logo designs would be appreciated! #Basscon will have dedicated stages at some #Insomniac festivals and will produce hard dance one-off festivals and events as well. Including a Bassrush Vs Basscon two stage show! It’s a sister company to #bassrush and dedicated to everything hard!!! Launch party is happening in February I’m excited about 2013! Many more projects to be announced! #hardtechno #hardtrance #hardhouse #hardcore #hardstyle #love #DropBeatsNotBombs #basscon – Pasquale Rotella
