Tonight, we finish off the new year with the last Unsung Heroes of 2012 (not to say that it won’t continue in 2013!) by looking at the expertly produced Peter Knife remix of the single, Stadium by Wezz Devall. Wezz has been regarded throughout the Trance spectrum as an innovator and has constantly pushed the envelope in developing new and unique sounds of Trance. His productions are not your run-of-the-mill music, as each selection of originals and remixes all have an identity of their own in an emotional and sometimes radical way. Earlier this year, after releasing Kill Of The Year and a grouping of remixes (and his own ‘remilfs’), he released his massive Big Room single, Stadium, to which it is adamantly named after. Enter Peter Knife. A relatively unknown producer through the Trance sphere, his sound is mostly on bringing out the best in Trouce and constantly building the bridge between Trance and Electro/Big Room in a synonymous fashion. As the only one to remix this tune, Peter Knife pulled out all of the stops to create a terrifying track to drop onto unsuspecting dance floors, perfect for peak time dancers needing their fix of bass in their system.
Peter takes Stadium and morphs it into a slamming Electro track that messes with the very sound equilibrium in your ears (trust us, that’s a good thing). He starts with a very high EQ’d synth playing its plucky melody while short, Big Room synths stab into anywhere that they can find a threshold in the beat. It builds with increasing energy, with a saw line going upwards as the Big Room synths provide support as constant quarter notes. The noise builds and build before the floor gives way and produces one of the FATTEST bass sounds that we ever heard, with an upwards synth to keep the pressure on. Seriously, you can feel your brain stem rattle from the sheer vibrations. Knife took the original bass stabs and lengthened it towards fantastic results. It comes back full circle as the process begins anew, but in the second drop, he leaves the upward synth out, which actually makes the second drop even thicker and more earthshaking than before. Supplemented with a calm serine melody overlapping it, it creates a very nice contrast for our ears and excellent dance material for the floor.

Only supported by a handful of producers, like TyDi, Rank 1 and Mr. Pit, it deserved way more attention because of the serious ear experimentation that this track imposes on listeners everywhere. Not to mention that this hasn’t been played live by any noteworthy artist and we here at YourEDM know that this would be the equivalent of dropping a bass nuke on the dance floor. This track is worthy for both Electro and Trouce lovers everywhere and the multifaceted nature of this tune makes it a highly valuable and unique piece of work. People who have to spin tonight: download this for a secret weapon that will grab everyone’s attention and have the energy of the floor explode. And casual listeners: this is a highly eccentric and awesome piece to hear and should be in the collection of all who want a little ferocity in their tracks while still maintaining the facets of Trance that we know and love.
