Over the past few years Never Say Die has forged their way to the top of bass music culture touting a lineup that includes some of the biggest names in dubstep, as well as some of the most prodigious young talent emerging on the scene. By forging this caliber of a label, it has become evident that with each release Never Say Die Records will continue to awe its listeners time and time again. Their latest release comes in the form of the Tension EP by the emerging French producer Habsktrakt. At the age of 22, Habstrakt has already developed a dynamic sound which effortlessly transitions from genre to genre giving each track a unique spin while maintaining his signature sound. The EP features four original tracks which specifically take the form of two dubstep and two glitch-hop tunes. The title track of the EP, Tension is nothing short of brilliant. A strong bassline coupled with bouncy synth riffs fit perfectly with the cadence of glitch-hop. Mantis, the other glitch-hop tune of the release once again showcases Habstrakt‘s refreshingly unique vision present in all of his productions. Combining an extended bassline with a barrage of funk-filled sonics, Mantis emphasizes the true strength of glitch-hop as a genre. The remaining tracks on the EP, Gluttony and Lady, are two incredibly unique dubstep tracks that continue to emphasize that Habstrakt is producing at a seemingly unparalleled level. In a scene that is quickly approaching saturation it is even more imperative to commend those that can still arise to the limelight with a level of sound design and production that sounds like no other. Habstrakt has done just that and after one listen to this release it quickly becomes apparent why this young Frenchman is being championed by some of the biggest names in all of EDM.
