Where does one even begin when talking about Jack Beats‘ Somebody To Love EP? The EP released today on OWSLA and is one of the most innovative and groundbreaking EPs I have heard in quite a while. It features dynamic production and a wide range of sounds. The production by Jack Beats is phenomenal and their music fits seamlessly with the vocals on their tracks. Instead of the vocals seeming inferior and overwhelming they fuse beautifully. This is an EP that should not be overlooked.
The EP kicks off with the title track, Somebody to Love feat. Jess Mills. The song has a quick build and a strong electro drop, the drop isn’t big but this song proves that you don’t necessarily need a big drop if you have a crazy electro beat to cover for it. The second track, Just a Beat, has a groovy beat with deep vocal samples. The production is clean and spot on. After Just a Beat is About to Get Fresh featuring Chiddy Bang and OV on the vocals. With a surprisingly fantastic and funky beat this one is quite impressive. The fourth song is Knock You Down. The song features a groovy baseline with surprisingly not annoying auto-tuned vocals, also the drop doesn’t disappoint with an awesome electro beat. Storm featuring Kid Harpoon is a soft track with a fast beat, classical piano, strings and emotional vocals. Although this track differs from the rest of the EP it fits surprisingly well. Also included on the EP are instrumental versions of Somebody to Love, About to Get Fresh, Knock You Down, and Storm.
