Q: 3 years ago not many people knew about you but now you are one of the household names in EDM scene, is it all moving to quickly for you?
A: I Don’t really know yet, I havent realized my own success yet. I just do what I do, make music, and i’m just happy with the chance to do this. I know its a pretty formal answer, but it’s actually how I feel!
Q: How do you like the American dance scene versus the European dance scene?
A: I think the American scene is just starting to develop so they embrace any kind of sound because it’s new and exciting, Europe on the other hand is a bit more spoiled. They have a more refined taste because it has been around a lot longer, for instance Holland is a hard place to get the party started. But I also think that’s why a lot of dutch artists are doing so well internationally, If you can do well in Holland you can play anywhere!
Q: How was working with Calvin Harris on Iron?
A: It’s funny because I met Calvin a hundred times but we had never met in the studio. I actually made this track called EDC 2012 New, which meant I had to make a new track for EDC, and I ended up creating the instrumental of Iron. I didn’t end up playing it at EDC but I sent it to Calvin instead and within 2 days he sent it back to me with his vocals and it sounded absolutely amazing.
Q: Do you like playing in more of a club or festival setting?
A: It’s a hard question, both have their charms. If I had to choose, I would like a really large location with a lot of people. But I also love playing in small locations with like 200 people because it’s very intimate and you can really connect with the people there.
Q: Whats one of your craziest experiences you’ve had on on tour?
A: The one moment that I will remember for the rest of my life is when I was trying to fly into the states but security wouldn’t let me through due to some issue with my passport. turns out one of the security people recognized who I was, and after the situation was handled he asked me to put him on a guest list for one of my shows. It was pretty awkward/funny!
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I have motorbikes and I really enjoy riding them. I like to do motor cross up in the mountains, And i’m currently looking to buy a Harley.
Q: What can we expect in the future from you?
A: lots of collaborations, some of which I can’t say but i’ve been working with David Guetta, Afrojack, and a few others so stay tuned 😉
Great interview, man! That must have been badass to chill with Nicky!
