One of the biggest rising stars in the house scene today, Dyro has been turning heads with his massive productions and dynamic style. The Dutch producer has already pumped out releases on labels like Revealed Recordings, Wall Recordings, and Armada Music. He’s garnered support from artists like Hardwell, Dada Life, and Laidback Luke. His most recent remix of Nicky Romero’s track “Iron” topped the progressive house charts on Beatport, and his remix of Dada Life’s “Feed the Dada” received an incredible amount of buzz. With some monumental tracks in the works, Dyro has plenty more magic left up his sleeve. I got the chance to talk to Dyro about his beginnings in house music, his production style, and his future plans in the scene.

Your EDM: For those who don’t know you already, please tell us a little about yourself.
Dyro: I’m Dyro. My real name is Jordy. I’ve been producing for two and a half years now, and it all started to make waves earlier this year. Some people might know me from tracks like my remix for Hardwell & Dannic’s “Kontiki,” my remix for Dada Life’s track “Feed the Dada,” or my remix for Laidback Luke & Angger Dimas’ track “A Night Like This.” Besides my remixes I’ve also made original tracks like “Metaphor,” “Magno,” “EMP,” “Raid,” and “Top of the World.”
Your EDM: Describe your early musical background. What got you into producing, and when did you produce your first track?
Dyro: Since I can remember, I’ve always been interested in music and the process of making it. A few years ago I downloaded FL Studio. I knew right away that this was what I wanted to do, but I’m also a realist. I knew my tracks would sound like crap at first, so I was producing tracks without actually putting anything out, until I reached a level I was happy with.
Your EDM: Calling your tracks “massive” would be an understatement. Your productions consistently have a very big room flavor, with some absolutely gigantic basslines. What is your approach to producing, and what are some techniques you try to use?
Dyro: Nowadays it’s very important to have a distinguished sound. There are a lot of producers out there and getting into producing only takes a few torrent downloads [for software]. I try to achieve my own sound which people can identify like that, and I hope that by now, I can say that I have. For me, a track is all about energy–energy that picks you up and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, and explodes in total mayhem. Every track should have a different kind of energy, and therefore I approach every track like it’s totally different. But in the end, it’s all about making people go bananas.
Your EDM: “Big room” progressive house seems to have really hit a peak in its popularity the past year or so. On the heels of artists like Swedish House Mafia and Avicii catching fire worldwide, there has been an explosion in public reception within the scene, with many artists trying to replicate that sound. What’s your opinion on this newer, progressive style? How do you feel about genres as a whole?
Dyro: I personally don’t really believe in “genres” that much. I don’t look at myself as strictly a progressive or electro producer. I just make music I like, the fact that people put that in boxes is a shame in my opinion. Then again, the sound that the crowd likes is evolving all the time. In my view, a good producer can go along with that evolution and still make music he likes.
Your EDM: The Dutch house scene is famous the world over, and has produced such legendary acts as Fedde Le Grand, Mason, and Sander Kleinenberg. Now there seems to be a “new school” of Dutch house artists, with rising stars like Dannic and Disfunktion all gaining popularity. You’re one of them too! What is your opinion on the current state of the Dutch house scene, and how do you see it moving forward?
Dyro: It’s always great to see new young talent making waves, and it’s even greater to be a part of it. I think the Dutch have done a lot for dance music worldwide, and they have a lot more to give.
Your EDM: You’ve had multiple releases on Hardwell’s “Revealed Recordings,” a couple releases on Afrojack’s “Wall Recordings,” and most recently did a remix of “Iron” for Nicky Romero’s “Protocol Records.” What has it felt like to have your work featured on such impressive labels? Are there more big-time releases in your future?
Dyro: It’s amazing to receive support of all those guys. Even more amazing if they want you to release your tracks on their labels, or even have you remix their own songs. There is definitely a lot more to come!
Your EDM: You’ve played numerous venues recently. Most notably, you just got done playing at the “Amsterdam Dance Event,” one of the largest music conferences in the world. What have your experiences been at your gigs?
Dyro: I’m still a little anxious and nervous when I have to play a big gig. I mean, I’ve only been DJing for half a year now. But usually after I mix the first two tracks in, I just go with the flow and see where it takes me. It’s the best feeling to get off that stage knowing that you’ve pleased thousands of people with music.
Your EDM: What are your touring plans for the rest of the year and early 2013? Are there plans to play in North America soon?
Dyro: It’s funny. I’m actually writing this now from my hotel room in Vancouver–so much for my plans to come to North America soon! I love America, and I’m so looking forward to playing there when I can. But first things first: we are working on my visa for the USA at the moment. When that’s settled, we will schedule some tours.
Your EDM: Tell us what we can look forward to from Dyro for the rest of this year, and early 2013. Are there any notable productions on the horizon?
Dyro: Of course! You guys have no idea! I have some killer remixes and productions in the pipeline and I can’t wait to get it out there. I’m very excited.

I’ve just uploaded my new remix for “Example – Close Enemies.” It was an honour to do a remix for one of my favourite artists at the moment! There’s a few more remixes coming up for some really big names, and a very special remix I did for my track with Ansol, “Top Of The World” which will be out later in November on Wall Recordings.
