Last week I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the rising house star, Funkagenda. Producing with artists like Mark Knight, Funkagenda has made a powerful name for himself in the house music scene. When he stepped onto the decks at Foundation Night Club, the crowd immediately responded to the funky fresh house beats that kept the vibe strong on the dance floor all night long. Check out what he had to say below!

Q: What do you think of the validity of the DJ Mag top 100 DJ’s List?

A: I Think it’s 100% accurate. People look at it like its the top 100 best DJ’s, but thats not what it is! The top 100 list is the biggest selling DJ’s of the moment.

Q: Who is one of your favorite DJ’s right now?

A: My favorite DJ has always been Sasha. He was one of the original superstars, he was touring America playing gigs like a rock band back before there was really even a scene here. Now everyone is touring but he was one of the first and is still one of my favorites.

Q: Do you like to play in a club or festival setting more?

A: Both! i’m equally at home where ever you want to stick me.

Q: What is the difference between your sets in a club versus a festival?

A: Club settings I feel like I can play more techy records where festivals are more about bigger builds and bigger drops. Both are awesome in their own element which is why it’s hard to pick one.

Q: Where do you get your musical influences?

A: I listen to a lot of music that isn’t dance music and sometimes i’ll hear a really good chord progression or rhythm that I would like to convert that into dance music with my own twist on it.

Q: Whats one of the craziest experiences you have had while touring?

A: I’m not a very crazy person, I use to be, but I quit drinking about 4 and a half years ago and the craziness mellowed out after that. I remember when Mark Knight and I were staying at a hotel in London with a couple of my friends and they had given me the handicap room that had a wheelchair in it. We decided to put one of my friends in the wheelchair then wheeled him as fast as we could down the hall then let him go towards then end of the hall and he went barreling through the double doors into what turned out to be the dinner hall. Needless to say the dinner guests were thoroughly entertained.
