Sir Elton John Criticizes Madonna and her Tour in Latest Interview

While not entirely EDM related but still relevant, Sir Elton John publicly criticized pop star Madonna for her latest attempt to break into the Electronic Dance Music scene. If you haven’t been paying attention, Madonna has recently orchestrated her MDNA tour, in conjunction with the release of same titled album, whose marketing and name have been under a lot of criticism. We will not begin the debate and topic of deadmau5 vs. Madonna but it has been apparent that Madonna’s main marketing approach is shock. After her highly publicized statement during the opening minutes of Avicii’s set at Ultra Music Festival with her use of the controversial Molly term, Madonna then began her MDNA tour with opening acts Alesso and Martin Solveig.

So now on to the recent interview with Sir Elton John by Saturday Night, as stated above the star and legend openly declared his lack of appreciation for Madonna’s sudden movement towards the dance scene, stating:

“If Madonna had any common sense she would have made a record like Ray Of Light and stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and make great pop records, which she does brilliantly.”

He follows suit with calling her a:

“fucking fairground stripper”

Now keep in mind the interview is not solely dedicated to tearing apart the pop now turned electronic dance artist, and also focuses on other topics such as Sir John’s baby and his upcoming movie that will be in production next year. But it is clear that Madonna’s recent move in the music scene has received much attention, whether from her Molly statement, or her insensitive use of the swastika symbol during her French performance. Now don’t get me wrong I am not against artists changing their base genre or target crowd, but it is important to do so with subtlety and a good understanding of the targeted audience. Instead Madonna took the bulldozer approach without realizing the potential backlash. Let us know what you think.
